Atalanta Clinch Champions League Spot with Convincing Win Over Lecce

Atalanta secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 victory against Lecce, marking their fifth consecutive Serie A win.

Despite making multiple changes following their midweek Coppa Italia defeat, Atalanta faced an early scare when Lecce’s Roberto Piccoli, on loan from Atalanta, had a prime chance to score but failed to convert.

The first half was an exciting end-to-end affair, yet both teams lacked precision in the final third. Davide Zappacosta came closest for Atalanta just before halftime with a strike from the edge of the box that narrowly missed the post.

Leece appeared to have broken the deadlock in first-half stoppage time when Patrick Dorgu slipped past the defence and finished cleverly past Juan Musso, but he was ruled offside, leaving the score 0-0 at the break.

The visitors made two substitutions at halftime, which paid off immediately. Charles De Ketelaere made a quick impact by racing clear and lifting the ball over Wladimiro Falcone, silencing the Stadio Ettore Giardiniero.

Atalanta soon doubled their lead when a missed connection by Falcone allowed a cross to hit Gianluca Scamacca and slowly roll into the net.

In the dying moments, Piccoli seemed eager to score and nearly did so with a late free-kick, but the ball struck the post, and the match ended 2-0.

Lecce, already safe from relegation, remain in 13th place, though they will want to avoid carrying a four-game winless streak into next season.

As for Atalanta, they remain in fifth place, just one point behind Juventus and Bologna, with two games remaining.
