Ajax Reportedly Reach Agreement with Nice for Coach Francesco Farioli, French Media Says

Reports from both French and Dutch media suggest that Ajax Amsterdam has reached an agreement with Nice coach Francesco Farioli, with the 35-year-old anticipated to sign a three-year deal in the near future.

Italian-born Farioli is set to succeed John van ‘t Schip following Ajax’s disappointing Eredivisie campaign, which saw them finish fifth, marking their lowest position since the 1999-00 season.

According to NOS.nl, Ajax will pay Nice a compensation fee of 1.25 million euros ($1.35 million) as Farioli becomes the club’s first foreign coach since Morten Olsen from Denmark in 1997.

Farioli, who is in his third full season as a coach, guided Nice to a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 this season. He previously managed Turkish clubs Fatih Karagumruk and Alanyaspor before joining Nice at the beginning of the 2023-24 season.

Having served as a goalkeeper coach under former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi at Benevento and Sassuolo, Farioli’s coaching career has seen steady progress, despite not having a professional football career himself.
